The Golden Boot reveals the most prolific goalscorer of the season, but as the Premier League years have gone by, the races have become tighter and tighter, with less goals between the players and more contestants on a similar tally. 

In recent years, some midfielders have forced their way into contention alongside the Premier League's top strikers, a clear sign of the increasing level of ability needed to achieve anything around the 20 goals mark as England's top flight get's tougher. 

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has won the Golden Boot four times, a record. In Cristiano Ronaldo's winning season, the Portuguese achieved a rate of goals superior to any recorded in the other 20 Premier League seasons so far, 0.91.
