Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby is being linked with a shock exit in January.
The Daily Star cite reports in Germany when claiming that the player could be forced out of White Hart Lane in the New Year, with Spurs no longer short of options at the heart of the side.
Andre Villas-Boas brought in a string of midfielders during the transfer window, with Christian Eriksen, Etienne Capoue and Paulinho all arriving in north London.
That’s pushed Holtby further down the Tottenham Hotspur pecking order, and whilst he’s previously revealed he’s determined to fight for his place, the report claims Schalke could activate a buy-back clause in the 22-year-old’s contract.
Holtby only joined Spurs in January, moving to the Premier League after four years in the Bundesliga. He had spent time on loan at Bochum and Mainz before becoming a regular at the Veltins-Arena.
He made his debut for Tottenham against Norwich in the same month as the move, and scored his first goal for the club earlier this summer in a 3-0 Europa League qualifying win against Dinamo Tbilisi.
