Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has taken to social network,Twitter, to vent his thoughts on the England team.
The German midfielder was critical of the Three Lions display as they held on to a goalless draw against Ukraine that leaves them top of their World Cup qualifying group.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere came in for particular criticism from Hamann, which drew an angry response from celebrity Arsenal fan and serial Twitter user Piers Morgan.
In a series of 'tweets' last night Hamann criticised the England side and called for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick to get more of a chance.
"Englands ball retention is very poor.Aint going anywhere if they can't find a player in a same coloured kit." He told his following of over 300,000.
"Carrick is one of the few top class players England got and he can't get a game.He does keep the ball as well as anyone.Beyond belief.
"England got one of the few players in the holding role of world class format .Half carried United in last 2 seasons.Yet can't get a game.
"England stuck in the dark ages.Players picked on reputation not merit.
"JW (Jack Wilshere) would be far more effective with Carrick next to him.RH (Roy Hodgson) got to build a team.At the moment its a jigsaw with loads missing.
"Wilshere is world class, done nothing in the game yet Carrick is a vital part of United won 5 leagues and CL and is not even considered.
"Football is a team game, you need players who complement each other.England is not a team. No structure no sacrifice for one another.
"England media hyped up Wilshere to be world class when he's a talent, no more.I wonder what Mr.Cross and co got to say."
Wilshere struggled to impose himself against the Ukraine and was subbed off early having been on the receiving end of a number of hard tackles.
However, Arsenal fan Morgan fought back against the German who made 59 appearances for the national side.
"Do pipe down @DietmarHamann - Jack Wilshere's already a better player than you ever were. @JackWilshere #Afc
"Let's face it, nobody naming the greats of the game goes 'Best, Zidane, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo.....Hamann.' @DietmarHamann"
England are on course to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil following last nights draw, and they only need four points to make sure of their place.
