Tom Brady confident ahead of Jets clash

Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, is confident his team can overcome their injury problems to beat the New York Jets this week, although expects a 'very challenging' match at Gillette Stadium.

Running back Shane Vereen, wide receiver Danny Amendola, and tight end Zach Sudfeld are all currently on the treatment table having sustained injuries in 23-21 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Vereen, who notched up 101 yards on 14 carries, has undergone surgery on his left wrist after breaking it against the Bills, while Amendola and Sudfeld have groin and hamstring problems, respectively.

It is hardly an ideal start to the season for the Patriots, but Brady believes they have a wealth of talent on their roster - with a particular strength in the departments where they appear to be short heading into the meeting with the Jets.

"We've got a lot of good players in the locker room," Brady told the Boston Globe. "So when people are injured, that's why you have a deep roster, guys that you've got confidence in, that you've gained trust in. I certainly have that at the skill position.

"So we've got a lot of good running backs and lot of good receivers. We're trying to do the best we can this week to go out and win a very challenging game against a very good team."

The Patriots host the Jets at 8:25 ET on Thursday.
