Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio was greeted with a chorus of boos as he took to the field for an AC Milan legends side against their Newcastle counterparts in Steve Harper's testimonial.

The Italian took it in good humour however, as he laughed and blew kisses to the St James' Park faithful, who had turned out in their droves for the former Magpies 'keeper.

Di Canio played for the Milan legends alongside European greats Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini among others while Steve Harper's Newcastle had an impressive strike force of Alan Shearer, Andy Cole and Faustino Asprilla to call upon.

However the match wouldn't end in glory for Harper and his side as the two teams played out a 0-0 draw before the Italians prevailed on penalties, with Di Canio netting, much to the anger of the 50,000 Geordies present.

Manager at Sunderland since April, Di Canio showed he still has some class on a football field and ran the show, despite being on the receiving end of a typically robust challenge from Joey Barton, to the delight of the Newcastle supporters.

Have a look above to see Di Canio roll in a typically cool penalty, as AC Milan legends win the shootout 2-1.
