Holland and Italy have become the first two European teams to cement their place in the 2014 World Cup.

Italy needed to beat Czech Republic to qualify, and did just that. Libor Kozak got the Czechs off to a flying start, leaving Italy needed a goal. Mario Balotelli made it equal again before defender Giorgio Chiellini overturned the deficit.

The Netherlands needed to beat Andorra and hope that Turkey beat Romania. Both of the games finished Holland’s way, with Van Persie scoring a brace for the Dutch in a 2-0 win. To top it off, the same scoreline came in the other game as Turkey ran out 2-0 winners.

Belgium, Germany and Switzerland all need just two points in their next two games to cement their places.

Elsewhere, Argentina booked their place, with a 5-2 win against Paraguay. Lionel Messi grabbed a brace and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero also chipped in with a goal. Argentina will now qualify for the 2014 World Cup after topping the South American group.

In the CONCACAF region (North, Central America and Carribean), Mexico were beaten 2-0 by leaders of the group USA as they also made the World Cup. Landon Donovan and Eddie Johnson made the scoresheet. Second placed Costa Rica drew 1-1 with Jamaica to grab the second of three automatic qualifying spots.

The teams who have qualified so far are: Brazil, Iran, South Korea, Australia, Japan, Holland, Italy, Argentina, USA, Costa Rica
