Arsenal only brought in four players this summer.

Two of them were free transfers, one was a loan signing and one was a club record in German star Ozil.

The Arsenal board have promised Arsene Wenger he has £40million to spend on players or on one star player this January, so below is a list of superstars that are remain on Wenger's radar.

Karim Benzema

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been an admirer of the French international since he was a youngster at Lyon.

The striker would add an extra option in attack with the only established strikers in the squad being Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has netted 56 goals in 125 appearances for Madrid and could be available to Arsenal for around £40million, which would be the entirety of Arsenal's January budget.

Luiz Suarez

Arsenal will not give up on signing the Liverpool striker and are likely to monitor the forwards progress up until January before making a bid in the region of £40million for the Uruguay international.

Just like other striking target Benzema, the 26-year-old would add another option in attack and his fantastic goal scoring record speaks for itself scoring 38 goals in 77 appearances for Liverpool.

Angel Di Maria

The Argentine plays as winger for Real Madrid and possesses great trickery and vision in his play which would add to Arsenal's creativity in attack.

The Real Madrid midfielder would be available to Arsenal if they meet the Spanish club's valuation of the player which will be around £25million and could help out on the wings in midfield along with former Madrid team mate Ozil.

Ashley Williams

The Welsh international and Swansea captain plays in defence for both club and country and would cost Arsenal around £10million. The Welshman would add to the defence and his experience as a captain will help to control the back four. Arsenal did not bring in any defenders over the summer, so the signing of experienced Williams would be ideal in January.
