Premier League: Five toughest footballers (6)

1. Duncan Ferguson

You have to be truly tough to top this list of hard men, and Duncan Ferguson earns his place for many reasons.

Nine career red cards, mostly for violent conduct, prove that Big Dunc was a centre-forward who feared no defender - or anyone, for that matter.

Before he came to the Premier League, Ferguson had already established himself as a slightly dangerous opponent for any footballer. His red card in Rangers' match with Raith Rovers for headbutting John McStay earned him a 12-match-ban. Oh yes, and three months in prison.

Two burglars from Liverpool should have done their research before deciding to rob Big Dunc's house. After one managed to escape the clutches of the giant Scot, the second felt the full fury of retribution and reportedly spent the next three days in hospital.
