Romanian international Ciprian Marica is close to completing a move to the North London giants after being linked to several clubs this summer, including West Ham, Shakhtar Donetsk, Lazio and Inter Milan.
According to ESPN, the player's agent has claimed that the striker is "close to joining Arsenal". After Arsenal failed to purchase any striker during the concluding window, in addition to current injuries to all other alternatives, it seems this signing may provide adequate cover to the Gunners last remaining fit striker, Olivier Giroud.
The player's agent, Ioan Becalli revealed: "Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it's natural that big clubs are eyeing his career. He's close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week."
Marica, who left Schalke 04 at the end of last season, scored for Romania against Hungary in a World Cup qualifier last week, despite not having a club.
The experienced striker was able to score and assist a goal in his match against Hungary last Friday to prove his fitness, while he was removed at half-time against Turkey four days later.
With Arsenal's dire striker situation, in addition to injuries that occurred during the break to veteran Tomas Rosicky and Yaya Sanogo, any new addition will really be welcomed.
Arsenal have 3 matches to play in 10 days as they face Sunderland, Marseille then Stoke City in quick succession when the domestic calendar resumes this weekend.
