Arsenal target, Juanfran has signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid that will see the defender remain at the club up until 2017.

Arsene Wenger's search for a defender this summer had seen the 28-year-old right-back linked with a move to the Emirates.

Already with several right-backs including Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson on the books, Juanfran would've been excess at the position but would've paired up well with fellow Spaniard, Nacho Monreal who lines up on the left for Arsenal.

However, any rumours speculating about a possible January switch have been put rest today as a new deal was confirmed, with his contract now extended by two years.

Juanfran has been vocal recently in stating that Atletico must find a replacement for Radamel Falcao.

While the Madrid side have signed David Villa to try and ease the loss, the side also face stiff competition over their other star striker, Diego Costa who has been linked with a move away from the club for a while.

Liverpool are amongst the clubs pursuing Costa, and could make a move for him in January.
