Lionel Messi would warrant a €100 million transfer fee far more than recent Real Madrid acquisition Gareth Bale, according to former Barcelona forward Juan Antonio Pizzi.
Bale joined Real Madrid in a world record breaking deal during the summer transfer window, surpassing the fee Los Blancos had paid to clinch the signature of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009.
Much has been made of such an exorbitant outlay by Real Madrid considering Bale's standing in the game compared to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi, with Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino branding the fee disrespectful.
The former Spurs star is the first player to have ever hit the €100 million barrier in a single transfer and, while few seem to value Bale so highly, Pizzi believes Messi would be worth every penny.
"Messi is worth €100m," Pizzi told La Xarxa.
"His statistics are insurmountable. I don't think that anyone will ever break his records on the short or long term.
"We are talking about the best or at least one of the best players ever."
Pizzi made 48 appearances for Barcelona between 1996 and 1998 and is currently the manager of Argentine Primera División side San Lorenzo.
