Now that the summer transfer window is closed and teams have done their business, everyone can feel that their squad is at its best for the months ahead.
However, there is a second transfer window during the season, a one-month window in January. This window is perfect for resolving issues in anyone’s team and provides ample opportunity for managers to add to their squad.
After a disappointing summer window for Manchester United, in which they only made one big signing in Marouane Fellaini, the January window could be the perfect time for David Moyes to really improve his side.
But who could they sign? Who should United really be looking to bring to Old Trafford in January? As most United fans will say, they would really like and could really use a world-class number 10 who has good passing qualities to create chances for the team.
Here, I look at three players that I believe could be great assets for Moyes and United in the attacking midfield role:
Although United reportedly had two rejected bids for the Barcelona playmaker, they really shouldn’t give up on their pursuis of the highly-rated Spanish star. For years, Fabregas really showed his class in the Premier League with Arsenal, so if United were to sign him, he wouldn’t need too long to re-adapt to the English game.
Alongside this, Fabregas is really showing some good form for Barcelona, so any thoughts of his talents diminishing are being proved wrong. Needless to say Fabregas would be a really smart investment for Moyes. His ability to create and finish chances is something United could really use to their advantage.
Although nobody is really talking about Kroos as a possible United player, I honestly believe he could be a very good asset for them. Currently playing for Bundesliga treble-winners, Bayern Munich, Kroos has seamlessly integrated himself into arguably the best team in the world above the likes of Mario Gotze - at least for now, anyway.
The fact Kroos that has played at this level shows that he would have the quality and stature to play for United. He can play in that attacking-midfield role as a playmaker or a box-to-box midfielder, however he can also play in a holding role should Fellaini or Michael Carrick get injured. His ability and versatility could really help United, even if no fans are talking about him.
Another player that United fans aren’t really talking about but would suit them perfectly is Hamsik. The Slovakian midfielder is a real talent and isn’t a player that should be over looked by anyone.
Having played for Napoli since 2007 and netting 65 goals, Hamšík certainly knows how to find the back of the net, which would be important to United as they need more goals from midfield. However, finishing chances isn’t all he can do; he also sets them up with his good vision, passing and awareness of players around him - just ask Edison Cavani. Again, like Kroos, Hamšík would be a great buy for United.
