Forgotten Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has travelled to Copenhagen for an isolated boot camp, as he attempt to regain match fitness for an unlikely first-team spot with the Gunners this term.

Despite a summer where both he and the club tried to engineer a move away from the Emirates, no team were seemingly willing to pay the Dane's wages before a proposed move to Crystal Palace fell through on deadline day after Arsene Wenger's failure to sign a replacement.

Pictures recently emerged of the striker looking overweight after spending the last few months on the sidelines, and now Bendtner, who spent last season on loan at Juventus, has enlisted personal trainer, Thomas Jorgensen, to help recover fitness.

Jorgensen said: "He needs more fitness and has had a few problems, but it is not as if he needs to lose 20 kilogrammes."

Arsenal's shortage of attackers has been highlighted after injuries to Lukas Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and new boy Yaya Sanogo, leaving Arsene Wenger with no option but to welcome Bendtner back in from the cold to provide back-up to Frenchman Olivier Giroud.

The striker is said to be weeks away from being ready to feature for the club, with manager Wenger specifically stating that Bendtner would only play if "he comes back well and gets fit", which remains to be seen.
