Marouane Fellaini must hit the ground running

Manchester United manager David Moyes' biggest challenge throughout the summer was trying to sign a midfielder capable of replacing the legendary Paul Scholes.

Moyes tried his best in attempting to sign a world class footballer who was capable of filling Scholes' void but failed miserably.

He chased Barcelona the Spanish trio of Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Ander Herrera - all to no avail.

Those transfer failures left Moyes to have no choice but to focus his attention on Everton star Marouane Fellaini, who he also chased along with his former left-back Leighton Baines.

Manchester United fans were left annoyed with their side's transfer business as Fellaini seemed like the panic buy option when compared to Moyes' aforemetioned targets.

With the 'panic buy' stigma attached to his transfer by Manchester United fans, Fellaini can only do one thing to silence the doubters and that is to string a number of excellent performances together in his opening few games of his Red Devils career.

And Fellaini has a fantastic opportunity to get off to the best possible start as the Premier League champions take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Impressing the Old Trafford faithful will go a long way into allaying the United fans' fears that the Everton star may not be good enough for such a prestigious team.

After the Premier League encounter with Palace, Fellaini will then have the possibility of playing his first Champions League group match for his new side - which will be another huge challenge for the 25-year-old.

Fellaini does not have the same passing range as Fabregas and is not as cute on the ball as Thiago - but he does deserve time to prove that he is worthy of wearing the Manchester United shirt.

He has after all been a consistent performer in the Premier League over the last five years for Everton and is an integral part of the highly-rated Belgium national team.
