New Liverpool man Kolo Toure has welcomed the competition for places in the club's defence after the late arrivals of Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.
Both Sakho and Ilori arrived in the last week of the transfer deadline, and Toure is sure this will benefit the team as no-one will take their place for granted.
With three wins and three clean sheets so far this season, the Reds are currently topping the Premier League and will travel to Swansea on Monday.
Arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City, Toure enjoyed a full preseason and is now ready to fight for his place.
“It’s fantastic,” said Toure.
“The competition has increased and everybody has to work really hard every day.
“The competition will be really tough and we need to work extra hard. Nobody will be expecting to play, we’ll all have to fight, but I love the competition.
“That’s the only way we can make the team better and I’m glad we have signed two very, very good players.
“We know all about Mamadou Sakho, he is a very good player. Tiago has also come in from Portugal and is a really good defender as well.”
The former Arsenal man missed Liverpool's defeat of Manchester United at Anfield but is hoping to return for the game at the Liberty Stadium.
“I will always bring my experience,” he said.
“The competition will be fair and I will help them when they need it. We work as a team, but I will do my best to show the manager I can keep my place.
“I enjoy taking on responsibility. With the experience I have, I can help them and show them the way.”
Brendan Rodgers faces a tough call when it comes to who he plays, Toure's early-season form has been impressive but Sakho's £18m million price tag suggests he may be a regular feature.
