Manchester United are the bookies favourites to secure the signing of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, ahead of local rivals Manchester City and Champions League holders Bayern Munich, reports the Daily Star.
According to SkyBet, the reigning Premier League champions are the most likely club to secure the Portuguese international's signature before February 2014, as talks over a new contract for Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu are no closer to being concluded.
Red Devils boss David Moyes would love to bring the 28-year-old back to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens in January, having failed with an attempt to sign him during the summer.
Ronaldo's future at Real Madrid has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few months, despite assurances from new manager Carlo Ancelotti that the player remains happy in the Spanish capital.
However, the recent departure of Mesut Ozil to Arsenal in a £42.4million deal is understood to have angered the former Manchester United star, who spoke out about his disappointment that a guaranteed supply line of his goals had been sold right under his nose.
The world-record signing of Gareth Bale is also believed to have upset Ronaldo, having taken some of the limelight away from the superstar who moved to La Liga in an £80million deal in 2009.
Ronaldo is set to feature for Real Madrid in this weekend's away clash against Villarreal, where he could line-up for the very first time alongside the Wales international winger, following his high-profile transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking last month, Ancelotti reiterated his belief that Ronaldo would sign a new contract at Real Madrid, despite rumours of his apparent unrest, but that was before the club completed the signing of Bale.
"I am confident Cristiano will renew," said the Italian. "I think he is comfortable here and I don't think it will be a problem.
"I don't know about a date because that is an issue between the player and the club, but one thing is certain: Cristiano will renew his contract."
Manchester United are priced 7/1 favourites to secure Ronaldo's signature, with Manchester City at 10/1 and Bayern Munich third favourites with odds of 12/1.
