The Boston Red Sox have continued their fantastic run of form as they picked up back-to-back victories over the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox started the game in determined fashion, running out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning, and had a chance to pile more runs on in the second and third innings but left runners in scoring position, ultimately allowing Yankees Pitcher, Hiroki Kuroda, off the hook as he eventually managed to pitch six innings.
The Yankees slowly dragged themselves back into the game thanks to some smart hitting and the game was tied at 4 as the Red Sox came out to bat in the bottom of the 7th.
Boston however has made a habit of grabbing big hits when they need them most and Jarrod Saltalamachhia homered with the bases loaded as the Red Sox picked up their second grand slam this week. The Red Sox would go on to win the game by eight runs to four as they took victory in the first of a three game series against the Yankees at Fenway Park.
That was followed with another impressive victory last night, as Jon Lester pitched eight innings in a 5-1 win for the hosts.
The Tampa Bays Rays will be pleased with the results at Fenway, as they are now sit three games ahead of the Yankees in the race for the second wildcard spot and a chance at the postseason.
The Rays picked up a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Twins in the first game of the series, and followed that up with an emphatic 7-0 victory last night.
