Five of the best: Premier League debuts this weekend (1)

Published 1 Comments

With a number of new faces on show in the Premier League this weekend, fans of clubs up and down the country had even more reason to be excited about the return to domestic action, following the international break.

Arsenal travelled to Sunderland with renewed ambition of a serious title tilt, after the £42.4million club-record capture of Mesut Ozil, and he wasted little time in making his presence felt as the Gunners earned a 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light.

Chelsea's challenge for the crown will now be spearheaded by former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o, following his free transfer arrival from Russia, but he drew a blank as Jose Mourinho's men succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against a new-look Everton at Goodison Park.

Manchester United manager David Moyes refrained from showcasing deadline day signing Marouane Fellaini from the start at Old Trafford, although the Belgian midfielder received a warm reception upon his introduction midway through the second-half of yesterday's 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Stevan Jovetic made his first start for Manchester City against Stoke City, but he was unable to find a breakthrough for Manuel Pellegrini's side during the 0-0 stalemate at the Britannia Stadium.

Tottenham coasted to a 2-0 victory over Norwich City at White Hart Lane, and Andre Villas-Boas handed a debut another of his seven summer signings, with Christian Eriksen taking centre stage, as he looks to fill the void left by Gareth Bale.
