With all the media attention surrounding Gareth Bale's departure from Tottenham to Real Madrid during the last few days of the transfer window, a young Dane arrived at White Hart Lane.
His arrival went almost unnoticed by many as Bale sealed his world record £85.3m ‘dream move’ to sunny Spain.
However, everyone will now know about Christian Eriksen and the quality he possess.
Twenty-eight minutes into his debut on Saturday he produced a clever assist for Gylfi Sigurdsson to latch onto and open the scoring in a game Spurs would go on to win 2-0 over Norwich City at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham manager Andre-Villas Boas has built a wonderful side funded through the Bale move; however, it seemed to be lacking that creative star who could play that key pass.
Well, from what we’ve seen in Eriksen’s first appearance in a Spurs shirt, it appears they have found that man.
The 21-year-old is one of seven new major signings to have joined AVB’s side for the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season and could arguably be the most important one.
Although Spurs have without doubt strengthened their squad, it’s become evident that they have needed the creative type to unlock a defence.
Their first three league games of the season didn’t see a goal from open play scored by them; however, Eriksen’s arrival saw that statistic evaporate during the first half hour against the Canaries.
The assist for the first goal was sublime as was his ball to Paulinho in the build-up to Spurs’ second of the game.
Eriksen left the pitch in 71st minute of the game to a standing ovation from the home supporters, showing already how much they appreciate the former Ajax star.
He brings a wealth of experience with him as well, competing in the Champions League with the Dutch champions along with 37 appearances for Denmark.
The side from White Hart Lane now seem to have all the pieces to the puzzle. Now we must wait to see how long it takes for this side to fully function together as a unit.
Although AVB has already ruled out his sides chances of winning the Premier League, with Eriksen’s creativity to add to this already talented squad, a title challenge could yet still be within reach.
