Tottenham star linked with Inter switch

Inter Milan are set to battle Serie A rivals Roma for the signing of Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby, according to talkSPORT.

German international Holtby only arrived at White Hart Lane from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in January, but Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas' summer spending spree, which included the signings of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Danish sensation Christian Eriksen, has seen the midfielder fall down the pecking order in North London.

Last week, it was rumoured that Rudi Garcia's Roma were plotting a swoop for the 22-year-old, who made his first Premier League appearance of the season from the substitutes bench on Saturday as a Gylfi Sigurdsson brace led Spurs to a comfortable 2-0 home victory over Chris Hughton's Norwich City.

However, Roma would appear to be facing considerable opposition from domestic rivals Inter in the race for Holtby's signature, with talkSPORT suggesting that Walter Mazzarri's outfit could e set to move for the former Alemmania Aachen prodigy when the transfer window re-opens in January.
