Supporters the length and breadth of the nation rejoiced this weekend as the Premier League returned following a two-week break owing to the latest round of international fixtures. With a number of new stars making their top-flight bows, there was certainly no shortage of talking points.
Christian Eriksen inspired Tottenham to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Norwich City at White Hart Lane, while fellow playmaker Mesut Ozil also enjoyed a prosperous debut for North London rivals Arsenal as they defeated Paolo di Canio's struggling Sunderland 3-1 in an eventful encounter at the Stadium of Light.
Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea slumped to their first defeat of the season with a surprise 1-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park, while Marouane Fellaini came off the bench to help Manchester United to a routine 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
West Brom notched their first goal of the new top-flight season during a 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage. Manuel Pellegrini's stuttering start to his reign as Manchester City boss continued with a goalless draw at Stoke, while Alan Pardew's Newcastle bounced back from a difficult end to the transfer window with a 2-1 victory away to Aston Villa and newly-promoted duo Hull and Cardiff played out a 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium.
On Sunday, there were no goals to be seen as Southampton and West Ham played out a dull 0-0 draw at St Mary's.
