Eden Hazard demands Chelsea response

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has called on his teammates to produce an instant response following their 1-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend.

The Blues were unable to break down the Toffees at Goodison Park in Saturday’s late kick-off, with Steven Naismith’s goal enough for the hosts to secure victory on Merseyside.

And, the Belgian knows back-to-back losses would not be good for Jose Mourinho’s side at this early stage of the season, as the west London outfit prepare to face FC Basel in the Champions League.

"We have another game on Wednesday in the Champions League and we need to win because Chelsea is a big club and if we lose two games it's very bad for us. We need to work in training to help us win that game,” Hazard told the official club website.

Despite the defeat, Hazard did see positives in the display at Everton, with the Blues spurning a number of chances early in the match.

Samuel Eto'o, Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic all had opportunities to put Chelsea in the ascendancy, and the Premier League title chasers ultimately paid the price for an inability to take advantage in-front of goal.

"It was a good match, we tried to do our best and if we'd scored in the first half it would have been a different game," he added.

"We started very well and we had three or four chances. We didn't score but we continued to try to score, and after Everton did, playing away it becomes very difficult."

As well as Basle, the Blues face Schalke and Steaua Bucharest in Group E of Europe's premier club competition.
