Fiorentina are set to steal away free-agent, Ciprian Marica from under the nose of Arsenal as they search for a replacement for Mario Gomez, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Serie A side have been left scrambling after marquee summer signing Mario Gomez suffered a partial tear in his left knee ligament.
The former Bayern Munich striker has scored two goals so far for La Voila but now that's he out for up to three months, Fiorentina have entered the hunt for former Stuttgart striker Marica.
The Romanian international has been a free-agent since leaving Schalke this summer and has been courting interest from all over Europe but the Daily Mirror is reporting that Fiorentina are one of the sides who've entered into contract talks with the 28-year-old.
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella is said to be looking at Marica or former Inter Milan and Lazio forward Tomasso Rocchi as replacements for Gomez.
Arsene Wenger was reportedly close to signing the free agent after Arsenal forward Yaya Sanogo suffered an injury whilst on international duty with the France under-21 team.
That injury left the Gunners with just one recognised striker in the squad for the game against Sunderland as academy graduate Chuba Akpom filled the understudy spot on the bench to Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal can still add Marica to their 25 man squad despite the transfer window being closed because of the Roamnian's free agent tag.
