Robin van Persie hails Fellaini performance

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has hailed the impact of Marouane Fellaini after the midfielder made his first start for the Red Devils in their 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen last night.

Fellaini partnered Michael Carrick in the middle of midfield which gave attacking players like Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney the license to help United’s Dutchman in attack.

Speaking about Fellaini’s performance, Van Persie told reporters: “Marouane did really well also. He was very solid and gets a lot of loose balls back.

"He’s very confident and always tries to get the ball going forward.”

United’s deadly striker also hailed the team’s performance in general as the Red Devils won their first European game of the season.

The 30-year-old continued by saying: “We were very confident on the ball tonight, everybody did their bit and we scored a couple of goals.

“Everything starts with being confident on the ball and trying to look for that pass in front, that’s what we did and that’s why we scored.”

United will now turn their attentions to Sunday’s Manchester derby as the Red Devils travel to the Etihad.

Both United and City have had mixed starts to the season, but would have been buoyed by their victories in Europe last night.

David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini will both take charge of their first Manchester derby as the two club’s go head-to-head this weekend.
