Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker believes the Gunners have an ‘exceptional team.’
The north London outfit are currently preparing to start their Champions League challenge as they play in Marseille tonight and Arsene Wenger’s side are going in search of their 10th straight away win in France.
After defeat in their opening game of the season, the Gunners have won their last five matches in all competitions and ahead of tonight’s clash Mertesacker told reporters: "(We have) an exceptional team. That is the main thing. We built that up from last season.
"We built our confidence up especially the 10 games on the last season where we did not lose. You could feel it from the first day that there is something special, apart from the first game.
"But nobody dropped and the performance went well after that as well. Ready to keep our confidence and keep our run going. Most important thing to keep that mental level high.
"We have to be prepared, will be hard, we will be under pressure, especially in the first 20 minutes.”
The German international has also stated the him and his teammates are ready for the tests ahead this season, as he continued by saying: "Yes of course we try to get everything out of us as individuals but also as a team. Up to us give that confidence and be part of that special team.
"We have to compete every three or four days, but that is what we wanted. It was a long way to be here, to compete in the Champions League."
The Gunners will be hoping to improve upon their last Champions League campaign after they were knocked out in the round of 16 last season to eventual winners Bayern Munich.
Wenger’s side will be hoping to get an early three points on the board in France this evening with Mesut Ozil expected to make his European debut for the Gunners.
