Wayne Rooney reached a landmark 200 goals for Manchester United in last night's 4-2 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old striker broke the deadlock midway through the first-half, when he converted Patrice Evra's cross from six yards out, and added his second - and United's third - after he pounced on a defensive mistake in the 70th minute.

Robin van Persie and Antonio Valencia completed the rout, to hand David Moyes his first Champions League victory against their Bundesliga opponents at Old Trafford.

Rooney's impressive brace took his individual Champions League tally to 29 goals, cementing his place at the top of the charts as the leading English marksman in Europe's elite club competition.
