Tottenham new-boy Vlad Chiriches will have to wait to make his Spurs debut, as Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he is still awaiting a work permit for the defender.

The 23-year-old signed for Spurs from Steaua Bucharest for a reported fee of around €9.5m, but is yet to make his debut for the club.

"We are expecting [the paperwork] anytime soon, it could have even arrived today, but it hasn’t and he’s not going to be involved,”  Villas-Boas told reporters ahead of Tottenham's Europa League clash with Tromso.

“I think for Bulgaria and Romania the process takes a bit longer. Sometimes it happens quicker."

"At the moment we are waiting for the post to arrive for the player to be registered. As awkward as it may look and sound, that is the reality."

"Obviously the player is frustrated with the situation but we can’t do anything about it.”

Tottenham will be hoping to have the Romanian defender available sooner, rather than later, as they embark on their difficult Europa League campaign.

Nacer Chadli and Aaron Lennon are both set to miss Thursday night's clash with Tromso on Thursday night, and they join Etienne Capoue on the treatment table at White Hart Lanen as both injuries and fixtures begin to mount up for Villas-Boas' side.
