Arsenal needed Luis Suarez

Arsenal's capture of Mesut Ozil has turned their fortunes around, but the Gunners should have signed Luis Suarez as well, says Robbie Savage.

According to the Express the former Wales international believes that the £42.5million for Ozil was money well spent, but that it doesn't take away from the fact that Arsenal are lacking top talent up front.

Much has been made about Arsenal's lack of depth in the striker position, with new signing Yaya Sanogo considered too raw for the Premier League just yet and Nicklas Bendtner not having the ability to do the job when it comes to it.

Only Olivier Giroud, who it must be said has started the season fantastically, can lay claim to being of the calibre that Arsenal would expect, and Savage is surprised Arsene Wenger didn't push harder for Suarez as a result.

"There was a lot of unrest at Arsenal this summer, but the signing of Ozil has completely transformed that," said Savage.

"Along with Ramsey who has been brilliant, and Giroud with his goals.

"But they needed to bring in cover for Giroud, I think all Arsenal fans would have been happy with Suarez and Higuain coming in."

It was reported yesterday that Giroud would have been happy with Suarez's arrival, whereas he didn't want Higuain to move to the Emirates.

Savage though believes the Arsenal frontman needs someone on his heels to ensure he maintains his top form.
