Andre Villas-Boas has praised £30m record new signing Erik Lamela on the eve of tonight’s Europa League Group K tie with Tromso.

Lamela came off the bench in both of Tottenham’s last two Premier League games however is ready to step up to the starting line-up to make his full debut tonight.

Villas-Boas is quoted by ESPN as saying: “His qualities are immense, they are not in doubt.

“We just didn’t have enough time with him due to his late arrival in the transfer window and the international game he played.”

AVB continued: ”It was finally good for us to have a few days training with the team and there is a possibility (he could start against Tromso).

“He is selected for the game and a player of his quality will threaten to be in the team very soon.”

The Portuguese manager also commented on the creativity that his new star has to offer to his side, adding: "He has played in different positions up front from a young age. When he left River Plate, first he played behind the striker, then on the left, then as a right winger. The experience he has in three positions means he is creative in all three positions."

The 21-year-old Argentinean joined River Plate aged seven and was offered a chance to join Barcelona in a similar deal which saw Lionel Messi move to the Nou Camp as a youngster.

He made his debut for River Plate in 2009 but it wasn’t until he joined Italian side Roma that we started to see what he could offer.

Lamela scored 15 goals in 31 appearances last year including six assists which sparked the interest from a host of European clubs.

After sealing a move to White Hart Lane in late August of this year Lamela will be hoping to show the Premier League the talent he has as his side push for a successful season.
