French press slam Ozil's performance in Marseille

He may be a £42.4m player, a former-Real Madrid, now Arsenal, playmaker of world class ability - but French newspaper L'Equipe are not impressed.

Because L'Equipe journalist Jean-Michel Rouet gave Gunners attacker Mesut Ozil just four out of 10 for his performance against Marseille in the Champions League group stage last night.

Along with Jack Wilshere, Ozil was rated the worst Arsenal player on the pitch at the Stade Velodrome as Arsene Wenger's men ran out 2-1 winners.

According to Rouet, Ozil made a "good start with a nice pass for Walcott but a lack of power after that and pretty rubbish [overall]."

As for Wilshere, the L'Equipe journalist felt the England international and Ozil too often occupied the same space.

Gunners full-back Kieran Gibbs was by far Arsenal's best player - with an important hand in both goals - and was duly rewarded with an eight out of 10.

But Wilshere and Ozil shouldn't pay too much attention to the player ratings - the French newspaper are famously scathing in their post-match critiques.

Former-PSG star David Beckham is one of many high-profile players to get a pasting by the press - the ex-England captain was awarded a three out of 10 for his display against Barcelona in last season's Champions League.
