Manchester United plan £25m Luke Shaw bid

Manchester United are poised to bid £25m for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Star.

The Red Devils have reportedly conceded defeat in their efforts to secure the signing of Everton and England full-back Leighton Baines, and will now turn their attention to the highly-rated Shaw.

The 18-year-old is the latest talent to emerge from Southampton's famed youth academy, following in the footsteps of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the world's most expensive footballer Gareth Bale.

And David Moyes regards him as the ideal long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, who turned 32 in May.

Moyes was determined to bring in a new left-back to provide competition for the France international during the summer transfer. However, several bids for Baines were rejected by Everton, while a deadline-day loan deal for Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao also failed.

It's believed United will face competition from Tottenham and Chelsea, who Shaw grew up supporting, but Moyes is determined to win the race to sign the England Under-21 international.
