Cristiano Ronaldo became Real Madrid's third leading goalscorer in the European Cup against Galatasaray on Wednesday.
The star forward surpassed Ferenc Puskas' previous record of 205 goals in 204 games by scoring his 206th goal in 204 games for Real Madrid this week.
Puskas scored 35 goals in the European Cup and Ronaldo's hat-trick against Galatasaray puts him three above the legend at 38 goals. Still above Cristiano are legends Raul and Di Stefano with 66 and 49 goals respectively.
Ronaldo has quickly, and according the the Spanish newspaper AS, successfully staked his claim to become Real Madrid's best player ever.
"Things could not have started better for us in this season's Champions League.
"Scoring six goals is really good, it will give us a lot of confidence," Ronaldo told the press after the 6-1 game against Galatasaray.
The forward who scored his 21st hat-trick for Real Madrid in Istanbul this Wednesday has just renewed his contract with the Castilian club.
The player's salary has been hiked up to a staggering £288,000 - and that is after tax. It seems the club's ambition is to keep the front man at the Santiago Bernabeu until he decides to retire.
Now that the star's contract has been taken care of, he can focus on helping Real Madrid add that elusive tenth Champions League title to their trophy cabinet. It's been 12 years since the ninth one and fans might be getting impatient for another.
