5. Laurent Blanc v Croatia | World Cup 1998

Football News

If Laurent Blanc still bears a grudge towards Slaven Bilic, you could understand why.

The France international was sent off in the semi-finals of World Cup 1998 after a penalty-box tussle with Bilic, resulting in him missing the biggest game of his career: the World Cup final.

Blanc, who went on to manage the French national team and is currently the boss at PSG, was not entirely blameless. He did make contact with Bilic's face, but the Croatian's dramatic reaction surely had a bearing on the referee's decision to issue a straight red card.
