Ding Junhui will play Neil Robertson tomorrow in the pick of the quarter-final ties, as the Shanghai Masters reaches the business end at the Grand Stage.
It will be a repeat of last season’s PTC Grand Final where Ding came from 3-0 down to stun the world number one 4-3 in Galway.
That was one of 13 encounters between the two of them, with Robertson on top in seven of those.
Both players scraped through to the last eight today as the Australian beat Mark King 5-3, while Ding was taken to a final-frame decider before overcoming Shaun Murphy.
Mark Selby and Barry Hawkins complete a tough bottom half of the draw, in a repeat of their last 16 encounter at the World Championship, where eventual finalist Hawkins won 13-10.
Hawkins overcame Ryan Day 5-2 today, and Selby edged out Robert Milkins 5-4.
Elsewhere defending champion John Higgins was ousted 5-1 by the in-form Mark Davis, who will play Xiao Guodong after the 24-year-old home favourite beat Peter Lines 5-3 this afternoon.
World number 100 Kyren Wilson is the surprise name left in the draw, as he added Marco Fu to his list of scalps that already includes Stuart Bingham.
He will face Michael Holt, whose final-frame win over Martin Gould sealed his sixth quarter-final appearance at a major ranking event – though he has never gone further.
