Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco haven't played for over two years. Yet when they meet at the Parc des Princes this Sunday night, it will be one of the biggest Ligue 1 matches between any two sides in recent history.
A lot has changed at both clubs since their last meeting - a 1-1 draw in Monaco in May 2011. PSG was bought by Qatar Sports Investments later that year, while Monaco were relegated and bought by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev around the same time.
Monaco achieved promotion back to Ligue 1 last season and spent £146m on players during the summer, including Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez.
PSG, meanwhile, have been building their squad the whole two years since their last meeting with Monaco, with star acquisitions such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani.
For the first time, these two star-studded sides will square off and it is perhaps fitting that the first meeting of the season will take place at the Parc des Princes in the French capital - a stadium that will be packed and buzzing unlike Monaco's Stade Louis II which attracted just 8,500 fans to last weekend's match.
Barring a dramatic Anzhi Makhachkala style fall from wealth for either club, this fixture could become one of the most intriguing and competitive fixtures in Europe over the course of the next decade, with as much importance on deciding the league title as a Barcelona v Real Madrid game or a Manchester derby.
For neutrals, this is a game that promises to excite and French fans have never before been able to watch a Ligue 1 encounter with as much talent on the one field. As both sides look to push for European success as well in the coming years, this match could see the 22 players on show value as much as any big derby in the world.
The continued rise of Ligue 1's two money clubs will likely make the league as a whole a lot duller and into an annual two-horse race. The good news, however, is that matches as exciting as this Sunday's will come around twice a year. And that is simply priceless.
