Theo Walcott was Arsenal's top goal scorer in the 2012 /13 season - Robin van Persie's departure and new arrivals at the club provided the ideal platform for the Englishman and he bettered his goal tally for the club.
His goals were timely and in Arsenal's splendid run at the end of the season he was invariably scoring the match winning goal.
This season Walcott was expected to continue his scoring spree, however a month into the season he was yet to start scoring.
The lack of goals were not a result of lack of chances, and he missed more than one chance which he would have buried last season. His first goal of the season was a first time sumptuous volley away at Marseille.
With Arsenal's style of play and players of the caliber of Mesut Ozil and the soon to be fit Santi Cazorla chances will be created and Olivier Giroud seems to be in prime goal scoring form to bury these chances.
But to expect him to go through an entire season fit and firing is unreasonable. This is where Walcott needs to step up and bury the chances which he did so well last season but somehow floundered in the early games this season.
If he regains his scoring touch and goes on another scoring spree Arsenal may well add to their trophy collection this season as desired by their English winger this week.
However, Walcott has been dealt a major blow today after illness has kept the star out of the Gunners' match with Stoke.
