At the beginning of July the transfer market opened and fans around the world waited with anticipation to see which players their club would sign and what other major transfers would transpire.
It was no different for Manchester United fans as a number of exciting names had been linked with a move to club to fill the void created by the re-retirement of Paul Scholes.
Thigao Alcantara who had an impressive tournament with Spain by winning the U21 European Championship, was the dominant name being linked with a move to Old Trafford. The news excited United fans the world over, who no doubt had witnessed Thiago's exploits during the U21 tournament and he moments of brilliance in the few games he played for Barcelona.
Not long after, Thiago's fellow countryman and club mate Cesc Fabregas was also credited with a move to Old Trafford, with new boss David Moyes keen to reunite the Van Persie - Fabregas partnership.
Fast forward a month and a half and Manchester United fans are left frustrated with missing out on signings with Fabregas choosing to commit his future to Barcelona and Thiago choosing to link up with former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
To add to the woes of the fans, Old Trafford favourite, Wayne Rooney was linked with a move to title rivals Chelsea. It seemed as if all faith was to be lost with the club not being able to secure any signings and looking set to lose the clubs best player to Chelsea.
However, five minutes after the window closed everything seemed to change for the better for the United faithful with the announcement coming through that the club had secured the signing of Marouane Fellaini from Everton. While this excited fans the world over, perhaps the most vital outcome of the transfer window for the Red Devils was keeping the services of Wayne Rooney.
With his performances so far this season, especially against Crystal Palace in the league and against Bayern Leverkusen in the Champions League, it would look as if the Rooney of old is back.
There is no doubt that Rooney will be the catalyst behind United's success this season as he has been for many of seasons past. His influence will prove most vital this season however as new manager David Moyes seeks to stamp his presence at Old Trafford.
When all is said and done it would seem that Manchester United has had the most successful transfer window this season.
