David Moyes has admitted that yesterday's result at the hands of Manchester City was worse than any result he had with Everton at the same ground.

Manchester United were left embarrassed after succumbing to a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of their local - and title - rivals Manchester City.

The defeat left United in eighth place, five points off first-placed Arsenal, giving the Premier League champions their worst start to a Premier League campaign since 2004.

And  the Daily Mirror are reporting that new manager Moyes held nothing back when dressing down his team after them game at the Etihad stadium.

Moyes told reporters that he had made his team aware that the dire performance was not good enough and is expecting a quick reaction.

“I’ve made them aware of that,” said Moyes. “But if there is ever was a group of players I’d expect that from it would be a group of Manchester United players.

“I think the way they have been brought up, the way they have been bred with the manager previously, they react, that’s what they do, and that’s what we’ll do here.

“We’ll make sure we react. Every manager has bad results. I’m no different.”

Moyes continued to say that he had never experienced a result as bad as yesterday's whilst at his previous team Everton. He did, however, say that his Manchester United squad has the attitude and the time to turn things around.

“I’ve been here before with Everton and never suffered a defeat like this.

“So I just told the players, in the same way I would have told players at any other club, if I don’t think they’re doing it.

“They’re good players, they’re good pros, they know when they’re bang at it and when they’re not.

“City were the better team, they were stronger, they got control of the game and we found it difficult to contain them.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t perform. There was no reason for us not to perform, but it was one game. There’s plenty of time to come."
