Sunday's Istanbul derby between Besiktas and Galatasaray was marred by crowd trouble, with a late pitch invasion forcing the match to be abandoned as players and officials took refuge in the dressing rooms.
Galatasaray were leading 2-1 thanks to a brace from former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba but, with the Super Lig champions just minutes from victory, the referee was forced to prematurely bring an end to the contest.
Tensions between Besiktas fans and riot police had been simmering throughout the encounter but, after Felipe Melo was sent off and then hit by a missile from the incensed home support, the atmosphere reached boiling point.
With objects being hurled onto the pitch, one crazed supporter attempted to punch Galatasaray defender Emmanuel Eboue after clambering over the hoardings, before hundreds of others stormed the field of play.
As the players and officials made their way down the tunnel, supporters picked up plastic chairs as they clashed with police, forcing proceedings to be ended in stoppage time.
