There was certainly no shortage of goals and controversy in the Premier League this weekend, with a series of entertaining fixtures and irresistible attacking displays.

Given the extremely high-profile nature of the clash and its potential ramifications for this season's title race, many eyes were fixed upon Sunday's Manchester derby between City and United at the Etihad Stadium where a Sergio Aguero brace inspired Manuel Pellegrini's men to an outstanding 4-1 triumph over their local foes.

Elsewhere, Arsenal continued their impressive run of form with a 3-1 win over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium while Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Mauricio Pochettino's Southampton.

Everton struck late to record a 3-2 win over West Ham United at Upton Park, Paulinho scored a last-gasp winner to lift Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-0 win over newly-promoted Cardiff City while Spaniard Michu inspired Swansea to a comfortable 2-0 win away at Crystal Palace.

Libor Kozak netted the only goal of the game as Paul Lambert guided Aston Villa to a 1-0 win at Norwich City, Chelsea recorded a 2-0 win over London rivals Fulham, West Brom hammered struggling Sunderland 3-0 and Sone Aluko bagged a tremendous volley as Hull beat Newcastle United 3-2 at St James' Park.
