It is certainly accurate and entirely fair to say that the Los Angeles Lakers, perhaps American sports' most illustrious franchise, endured a difficult 2012/13 season.
With a spate of debilitating injury woes and persistent talk of locker room unrest, Mike D'Antoni's men limped through the regular season and just about avoided missing out on the postseason with a 45-37 record just enough to secure seventh seed in the Western Conference.
Kobe Bryant and co. were emphatically dispatched in the first round of the playoffs, however, with Gregg Popovich's San Antonio Spurs cruising to an exceedingly comfortable 4-0 series win.
The summer was littered with further disheartening disappointment for Lakers fans, as dominant center Dwight Howard opted against signing a new multi-million dollar contract at Staples Center and instead agreed to move to the Houston Rockets.
However, despite such unwanted and potentially harmful unrest, Lakers fans are preparing for their side to better what was a frankly dismal season by their impeccably high standards last time out.
This season the franchise will be sporting a new uniform, with team bosses deciding to honour their star-studded heritage by introducing black jerseys to pay homage to nearby Hollywood.
