On Saturday, then league leaders Liverpool slipped to a shock 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Southampton, bringing an end to their short spell at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal's win at Stoke the following day meant that Brendan Rodgers' side slipped down the league standings, with the Anfield chief calling on his troops to make an immediate response by returning to top form on Wednesday night.

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the Capital One Cup third round, with David Moyes' side fresh off the back of a humbling defeat of their own - 'noisy neighbours' Manchester City quietened United with a 4-1 win over their fierce rivals at the weekend.

Yet, despite the Merseyside club losing their seat at the top of English football's table, here's three reasons why the Anfield giants can return to form and pull off a win at Old Trafford.
