Five riskiest managerial decisions this season (5)

Gareth Bale – one Galactico too far?

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez likes to make his big-money signings, but the recent world record move for Gareth Bale could possibly end up causing more trouble than it was worth.

While Bale’s quality is not in doubt, this could be one big star too many for the Santiago Bernabeu club, never mind questioning whether it was what Carlo Ancelotti’s squad really needed. Gonzalo Higuain and Mesut Özil left for big money as Bale joined Isco and Illarramendi as new boys, yet more wingers/midfielders and only Karim Benzema as the only senior traditional centre-forward.

The Frenchman’s form is suffering and Cristiano Ronaldo may be left to pick even more of the scoring load – relying so heavily on one man is always dangerous, however outstanding he is.
