Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta thinks that Wayne Rooney worked harder than any of his Manchester United teammates during the two sides meeting on Sunday.
City ran riot at the Etihad Stadium and were 4-1 winners.
Sergio Aguero grabbed a brace whilst Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri added further goals, Rooney carried on his fine form and picked up a consolation.
It was dubbed as the battle of the new managers with Manuel Pellegrini and David Moyes in their first seasons in charge of their respective sides.
However, it was Pellegrini who had the upper hand for the first derby meeting.
Rooney had suggested earlier in the week that Liverpool was still the biggest rivalry for the Red Devils but the Citizens Argentine defender dismissed that claim by looking at the England strikers performance.
He told SkySports: "I saw Rooney. He was one of their main players, he tried more than anyone else in the Manchester United team,"
"He says Liverpool is still the big game. But I saw him working so hard, so probably it proves this game is just as important to him as United against Liverpool.
"When the game is like that, and you see the team playing like that against a team like Manchester United, you know it's a special game."
The win left City in third place while the Moyes' men are struggling the first season post-Sir Alex Ferguson in eighth place.
