Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur look set to miss out on striker target Ciprian Marica, as he look set to seal a move to Spain in the coming days.
According to talkSPORT, both Arsene Wenger and Andre Villas-Boas were interested in recruiting the Romania international this summer, with the Arsenal boss close to agreeing a deal.
The Gunners was being on the verge of completing the signing of Marica was confirmed by the player's agent Ioan Becali at the start of September, but this report suggests the deal has fallen through and Rayo Vallecano could finalise his signing this week.
Tottenham are not light in the striking department, but it looks as though Villas-Boas has no interest in recalling Emmanuel Adebayor to the first team after a very disappointing season last year.
The Togo international was reportedly told to train with the reserves and was tipped to move away before the transfer window closed. Not using Adebayor has left the Spurs boss with Robert Soldado, Jermain Defoe and Harry Kane as his centre-forward options.
Soldado is a quality striker but has only just arrived in the Premier League, while Jermain Defoe is struggling for form and Harry Kane is yet to show he is ready to step up to the first team.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have limited striking options and have Olivier Giroud as their only recognised senior centre-forward, though Nicklas Bendtner is set to make his first appearance for nearly two years in the Capital One Cup clash with West Brom on Wednesday.
Marica is available after his deal with Bundesliga side Schalke 04 expired at the end of last season and so, being a free agent, he is able to sign for a club outside of the transfer window.
