Houston is brimming with confidence with regards to their beloved Rockets ahead of the coming season and that is for one main reason - the arrival of Dwight Howard.

Arguably the best center in the NBA (although Roy Hibbert and others may argue otherwise), Howard is one of the few real 'superstars' in the league. The presence he creates in the paint and low-post is enough to leave any team scared, but it is also that same presence that will result in small-forward Chandler Parsons harbouring a more crucial role for the Rockets throughout the 2013-14 NBA calendar.

Whilst teams double-up defensively against Howard and keep a tight guard on masterful All-Star James Harden, plays will result in Parsons obtaining high percentage looks -  be it outside or inside the arch - that Parsons will have to sink.

"We’ve added so many pieces and that’s going to free up a lot of shots; just having Dwight getting double-teamed" said Parsons in an interview on Rockets.com. "I’ve got to be ready to knock down shots."

It's clearly apparent that Parsons will not be underestimating his importance to the team this year. Always confident in himself and his own ability, Parsons is quickly becoming a role model for young basketball players not only in the United States but all over the world.

A second-round pick that many could have forgiven for being under the radar in the early years of his NBA career, Parsons has exceeded expectation in both his rookie season and his second year. However, now is not the time for the Florida man to slow down, he must push on and continue to progress at the same rate of knots that he has been.

LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony are all superstar names in their own right that play at the three-spot and ehind them you have Josh Smith and Luol Deng. That's five players who are known the world over, and who is to say that Parsons couldn't be the sixth man on that list?

The season may well be one of hope and mystery for the Rockets, but if Parsons can take some of the pressure away from Howard, Harden and even Jeremy Lin, this coming season could be one of unqualified success for the franchise.
