Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has praised the quality players that Tottenham Hotspur have in their ranks ahead of Villa's Capital One Cup tie at Villa Park tonight.
The Scottish manager believes that regardless of who plays for the White Hart Lane outfit, they will still be able to field an extremely strong team.
Speaking to Aston Villa's official website, Lambert said: "You don't know what team Tottenham will use because of the amount of players they have. They can mix and match. They do it in the Europa League too. We have to combat that".
"You're in Europe because you are a good side. They have bought in an abundance of players- and good players not average ones. They are top players."
The former Celtic player, who won the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund during his playing career, also spoke about Spurs' flying start to this year's Premier League campaign.
"They are a right top side. Everyone knows that, they are right up the league as well," he added.
Villa will be going into the cup clash as underdogs as the Villains have been hit by an injury crisis. Lambert has been forced to rest several players who have starred in the Premier League this season, with the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, Christian Benteke, Fabian Delph and Antonio Luna all looking likely to miss out.
Despite his team running on empty due to the recent spate of injuries, the 44-year-old boss believes that his Villa side can deliver Spurs a shock in the third round.
He said: "As long as you go into something you go in to win it. I am a great believer in that. How far a cup competition takes you? You need bait of luck in a cup competition football. We will have to try and get a bit of luck plus play well".
In a demanding week Villa also host Manchester City on Saturday as they aim to clinch their third Premier League win of the season.
