Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been given a selection headache after being told key defender Daniel Agger is an injury doubt due to an aggravated rib injury.
Agger was part of the Liverpool side that slipped up against the Saints last weekend, but had to come off with half-an-hour to play after aggravating a rib injury.
Liverpool have enjoyed a successful start to the new campaign, despite the 1-0 home defeat to Southampton at the weekend.
And Rodgers would have looked to Agger to provide defensive steel against bitter rivals Manchester United in the Capital One Cup tie on Wednesday night as they look to progress in the Cup.
And boss Brendan Rodgers is not hopeful that the Danish international will be fit for the crunch tie.
"We'll see how he is for the game," Rodgers told reporters.
"He could be a doubt for that game as he has not quite recovered. We wanted to give him time at the weekend, but unfortunately he was struggling with his breathing because he got a knock to the ribs.
"But we'll see. He's a player who makes a good recovery and we'll see over the next 24 hours how he gets on for the game for Wednesday," he added.
Liverpool will be wary that United will be looking to bounce back after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Manchester City last week, and Rodgers will hope that Agger can make the starting XI.
