David Silva is set to give Manchester City a timely boost by returning to the squad for the Champions League group match against Bayern Munich next Wednesday, reports Sky Sports.
The City star midfielder has been out of action since August after injuring his groin whilst on international duty with Spain.
Although City - who eased past Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup last night with a 5-0 win - will not have the Spaniard available for the Premier League trip to struggling Aston Villa on Saturday.
"We will see the next day what happens with David," said Manuel Pellegrini.
"The doctor can say better than me what will happen. I don't think he can play on Saturday but maybe for the next game of the Champions League, I think he could be fit."
Silva had shown good early season form before his untimely injury. A goal and an assist came in the 4-0 season opener against Newcastle United.
The match against Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium will come as an early group decider, with both sides having recorded 3-0 victories in the opening round of Champions League fixtures.
City are looking to progress past the group stage of the competition for the first time in their history, after poor campaigns in the previous two seasons which meant Roberto Mancini was replaced by current boss Pellegrini.
