Palermo have sacked Gennaro Gattuso as manager after just six games in charge of the ailing Serie B club, SkySports have revealed.
The 35-year-old was shown the door at Stadio Renzo Barbera, after a second straight defeat in the league.
The Rosanero are struggling in 12th position following their relegation from the top flight last year and had been expected to come straight back up to Serie A.
And now, the clubs president Maurizio Zamparini is looking for a 21st manager in his 11 year ownership of the club.
Gattuso was known as a fearless player with a hard-man reputation and played over 400 games for AC MIlan whilst also helping Italy to win the 2006 World Cup.
He also had a spell at Swiss club Sion as a player-manager but was swiftly sacked by them as well.
A statement from Palermo read: "It is with true and profound sadness that I announce the dismissal of Gennaro Gattuso as coach of the first team.
"The results have forced us to take this decision.
"Perhaps he (Gattuso) and I have taken a step too far in what was his first experience as coach, in a club and a city as challenging as Palermo is.
"I have decided to appoint experienced Giuseppe Iacchini as his replacement, handing him the task to lead the team back to Serie A."
